  • Georgia has now become a key ally of the United States in Central Eurasian region, and can be seen as a model for effective cooperation between a small country and the world's superpower. It has provided troops for Coalition operations in Iraq, as well as air and land corridors for American troops operating in Afghanistan. Georgia is one of the largest recipients of technical and financial aid from the United States. This close partnership, highlighted by President George W. Bush's visit to Georgia in May, are a strong foundation for ongoing reform in Georgia and in making Georgia an attractive target of profitable investment. Georgia's potential for growth has never been greater.

Through this conference the Council aimed to promote Georgia as an exciting place to invest and to do business. Unusually attractive opportunities for investment exist in agribusiness and the wine industry, in transportation and energy infrastructure, in the financial sector and, especially, tourism. Our members and invited guests explored and discussed Georgia's potential to grow in the context of recent political and economic developments. Speakers included Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli, Presidernt of America Georgia Business Council and Director at Hudson Institute S. Emders Wimbush, Head of Georgian National Oil Company Sakmavtobi Vano Nakaidze, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Mat Bryza, Head of BP Georgia Wref Diggings, CEO of Metromedia International Group Mark Hauf, Ambassador of Georgia to US Levan Mikeladze, Ambassador David Smith, Vice Chairman of TBC Group Badri Japaridze, Managing Director of Millennium Challenge Corporation Steven Groff, Daniel Stein of US Trade and Development Agency and many others.
